On Sunday 19th May 2019 Friends Centre took part in the BHT Greater Brighton Cycle Challenge. It wasn’t the beautiful warm and sunny day that we’d hoped for but that didn’t put us off.
Our team of five cyclists consisted of Julia Hincks (Dressmaking tutor and Curriculum Coordinator), Javier Paz (Spanish tutor), Richard Hopkins (Chair of Board of Trustees), Jo Crawford (Fashion student) and Simon Taylor. They were joined on the day by Friends Centre staff and trustees who gave the riders a good sent off and welcomed them back, cheering them on to the finish line.
Each team member cycled 30 miles on the Devil’s Dyke loop to raise over £1500 for Friends Centre’s student hardship fund to help our learners pay for courses, course materials, travel costs and childcare.
A huge thanks to the cyclists for taking part and getting rather muddy – and thanks also those who gave up their time on the day to promote the centre and provide support for the team.
Thank you to everyone who has donated so far and supported us – there’s still time to donate on our Just Giving page here:
We hope to take part again next year and try to beat both our fundraising target and the number of miles cycled so if you’re up for a challenge you’ve got a year to prepare!
