Helen Osborne, Friends Centre Principal and Chair of Brighton & Hove Adult Learning & Skills Partnership was awarded an MBE for services to adult education during an Investiture ceremony at Buckingham Palace on Friday 7th December.
She was presented with the prestigious honour by Prince William, Duke of Cambridge. Helen said of the day:
“It was an amazing day, and everyone was so lovely. Prince William showed a real interest in the work we do at Friends Centre, and was grateful for the work we do. Our team at Friends Centre are all committed to the work that we do and giving the people the opportunity to develop themselves through the programmes and courses we offer. I was especially excited walking into the palace as it was all decorated for Christmas, which is a special time of the year for me, and made me feel even more that my mum was there with us (my dad, step mum and one of my brothers). It was great that I could share this moment with my family. This honour goes to show the importance of adult education from those furthest away from the world of employment and all we have done at Friends Centre to promote this in our work and in the city. It was a very special day and one I will remember for ever. Thank you to all our learners, staff and partners for their support.”
