This French course in Brighton is a follow-on course to our Brush up Your French course and is for anyone who has attended at least one year of French study.
This course is designed to help you improve and extend your French vocabulary and grammar. We will study French tenses (past, present and future), pronouns, adjectives etc through well designed speaking, listening and written activities based on everyday life situations and French culture.
We will look at different topics each term, allowing for new learners to join the group and current learners to develop their French further.

This course aims to:
Give learners the opportunity to improve their French conversation by studying in depth French tenses (present, past, future), pronouns, adjectives etc through speaking, listening and written activities based on everyday life situations and French culture – traditions, poems, songs and films.
Who this course is for?
This course is for anyone who has attended at least a one-year French course and who would like to improve and extend their French vocabulary, perfect their French grammar and pronunciation.
What will I be able to do by the end of this course?
- Talk about yourself and others
- Explain what you do in your spare time
- Give and express your opinion
- Differentiate between and use the relative pronouns such as lequel, auquel, duquel etc.
- Use the present, past and future tenses
- Analyse products of French culture such as songs, poems and extracts from films.
- Feel more comfortable with difficult grammar points such direct and indirect object pronouns
- Have a better understanding of the French way of life and culture
What materials will I need for the course?
You will need pens, paper and a file for your course work.

How will I know I am making progress?
Progress will be monitored through tutor observation and feedback. Written homework will be marked and returned each week. You will be encouraged to reflect on your own progress at the end of each session.
Is there any extra study outside the class?
The tutor will set some homework for the following lesson.
Who is the course tutor?
Barbara is a native French speaker who now lives in Brighton with her family. She has a ‘RSA Certificate in Teaching Foreign Languages to Adults’ and has taught French at all levels for the past 20 years in adult education centres and colleges such as Friends Centre, BHASVIC and Varndean College.
Move on to a more advanced French course at Friends Centre such as Talk French.
