This course aims to:

Develop your sewing skills to make a pair of perfectly fitting, professional looking pair of jeans.

You will provide the pattern, fabric and haberdashery.

Who this course is for?

This is for experienced/intermediate sewists who are confident in using a sewing machine, have made multiple garments and can follow a commercial pattern.

What will I be able to do by the end of this course?

  • Measure accurately and select the right size of pattern for your size and fabric
  • Be able to sew a pair of jeans in a professional, shop bought way
  • Topstitch with twin needle (or accurate two rows of stitching)
  • Insert a fly front zip
  • Sew commercial-looking jeans hip pockets – including coin pocket
  • Apply jeans button and rivets

What materials will I need for the course?

To give as much variety as possible you will supply your own pattern, fabric and haberdashery for your jeans.

Type of fabric:

Read your pattern to find out which fabric they recommend for your chosen style. It is important you follow their recommendations to help ensure your final garment fits as well as possible.

Be especially aware if your pattern recommends a stretch denim, and be sure to adhere to the recommended percentage stretch.

Also be aware that denim comes in many different weights, with or without stretch, all of which can affect the final look of the jean. Again, be advised by the pattern you select.

Most importantly – wash your fabric before attending the course; denim shrinks!

Don’t forget to buy matching polyester thread, topstitching thread, metal zip, rivets and anything. Else that your patterns suggests.

Types of Pattern:

There is a big range of patterns out there, available either as paper or as PDFs to download and print yourself:
