This course will introduce some of the basic principles of self defence. We will discuss the difference between real self defence and the martial arts, how to best avoid trouble and escaping without using violence. We will also discuss what the law says about using self defence. We will work on some basic drills to make you feel stronger and more confident, practise several simple escape techniques and look at lots of ways of subduing an opponent. We will also look at recognising potential ‘weapons’ in the environment around us such as keys, newspapers or even the harmless looking walking stick.
