Appliqué is a technique of layering and stitching fabrics that can be used to embellish clothing or create pieces of artwork. Learn how to combine fabrics, thread and stitch to create something unique.

 

You will get the most from this course if you can already use a sewing machine.

This course aims to:

Teach learners how to create a unique piece of textile work, incorporating different fabrics and machine stitch.

 

Who this course is for?

The course is suitable for everyone. No sewing machine experience is necessary although you will get more from this course if you can already use a machine. You will be guided through step by step. If you do have some machine embroidery experience you will be able to attempt something more ambitious.   Templates and simple designs will be provided if you do not feel confident creating your own.

 

What will I be able to do by the end of this course?

You will be able to use the sewing machine to create a piece of textile work using layers of fabrics and machine stitch. This is a fun way to use a sewing machine and gives you extra options for general sewing. This technique can be used to embellish clothes.

 

What materials will I need for the course?

Pen and notebook

Ideas of what you’d like to create, images and / or reference materials for inspiration.

Sewing materials will be provided but you may wish to bring your own sewing threads, fabrics and scissors.

 

Who is the course tutor?

Anna Liversidge is a textile artist. She discovered machine embroidery at Art College and has been practising with its endless possibilities for the last twenty years. She combines hand and machine embroidery to build texture in her art work. She teaches various groups of children and adults sharing her passion for creativity and embroidery.
