Develop your drawing skills on this life drawing course in Brighton.

On this four day course you will have the opportunity to practice a variety of drawing exercises to help you understand and represent the human figure.

Working from a life model you will create a range of drawings using different media in a friendly and supportive environment.

This course is suitable for those with some basic drawing skills and complete beginners to life drawing.

By the end of the course you will have experimented with a range of media to draw the figure, practised ways of measuring proportion to inform your drawings, seen an improvement in your drawings and feel more confident and better equipped to go along to other life drawing classes and/or drop in sessions around the city.

Cost includes basic materials and a fee for the model.

This course aims to:

Introduce students to the skills and techniques needed to create life drawings.

We will be working from models, with poses ranging from 1 minute to an hour. We will practise using a range of mediums including pencil, graphite, charcoal, ink and pastels.


Who this course is for?

Beginners to life drawing, but those who have some basic experience with drawing.


What will I be able to do by the end of the course?

  • Use a range of different drawing techniques
  • Use a range of media including pencil, charcoal, ink and pastels
  • Demonstrate your understanding of proportion and anatomy to draw people
  • Be ready to join other life drawing classes around the city
  • Enjoy a new hobby.


What materials will I need?

Pencils 4B and 6B, charcoal, a putty rubber, a set of chalk pastels (Inscribe 48 half sticks £12 are the best value for money). Basic paper will be supplied.  But you may wish to buy other paper as the course goes on. Advice will be given on the course if required. A plastic portfolio A3 or A2 to contain your work is useful, about £5, but not necessary.

Is there any extra study outside the class?

Occasional homework.


Who is the tutor?

Anna Blencowe is a textile print designer and illustrator working in Brighton. She produces her own artwork for her designs and always experiments with different drawing styles and use of media. Anna has studied a wide range of drawing techniques throughout her art and design education and professional career. She is now bringing her wealth of practical drawing skills and knowledge to teaching.
