Who this course is for?

Those who have completed a ‘Knitting for Beginners’ course or have some basic knowledge e.g. casting on and off, knit and purl stitches.

What will I be able to do by the end of this course?

  • Increase
  • Decrease
  • Work with more than one colour of yarn – stripes and patterns
  • Follow a chart to work a pattern in two different colours
  • Use double pointed needles or circular needles
  • Follow an intermediate level pattern to include simple heel shaping
  • Use mattress stitch to create an invisible seam

What materials will I need for the course?

Please bring yarn of your colour choice e.g. red, green and white. This can be any weight of yarn but 4ply or double knitting (DK) yarn is best.

The stockings will be knitted on double pointed needles (dpns) or circular needles to make the heel shaping easier to do. Please bring dpns or circular needles if you have them in a size to match your yarn e.g. 2.75mm for 4ply, 4mm for dk yarn.

Knitting needles and yarn can be provided or purchased from the tutor if you unable to provide your own.

How much will these cost?

Knitting needles can be bought from the tutor or charity shops from as little as 50p, acrylic yarn starts from around 50p for a 25g ball.
