This French course in Brighton will explore the language and culture of France through French film.
This French workshop is for anyone who has grasped the basics in French, loves French films and would like to improve their knowledge of the French language by developing their vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation.
In the morning we will watch a film and then discuss this in the afternoon.
Films will be shown in French with French subtitles.
Activities and discussions on this French course will be solely in French.
The title of the film will be announced one month prior to the workshop.

This course aims to:
Give students the opportunity to take part in discussion and debate in French about the storyline, plot and characters of the French film they would have watched together in the morning. The film will be in French with French subtitles.
Who this course is for?
This workshop solely in French is for anyone who has grasped the basics in French, loves French films and would like to improve their knowledge of the French language by developing their vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation.
What will I be able to do by the end of this course?
- feel more confident about talking French in public and company
- describe and analyse the film’s characters
- explain the storyline of the film
- give their point of view on topics relating to the film
- use the different French tenses appropriately
- feel more comfortable with difficult grammar points such as adjectives
- have a better understanding of the French way of life and culture.
What materials will I need for the course?
No particular material needed apart from a French dictionary.
When appropriate, the tutor will provide handouts as material for discussion.
Roughly how much will they cost?
French dictionaries cost between £5 to £10.
Who is the course tutor?
Barbara is a native French speaker who now lives in Brighton with her family. She has a ‘RSA Certificate in Teaching Foreign Languages to Adults’ and has taught French at all levels for the past 20 years in adult education centres and colleges such as Friends Centre, BHASVIC and Varndean College.
Continue on further French courses at Friends Centre or other college in the city such as BHASVIC, Greater Brighton Metropolitan College, Varndean College and PACA Adult learning.
