Do you want to improve your French language skills and communicate confidently in real life situations?
Join this friendly group in Brighton and develop the language you need to travel around, order meals and meet new friends. For those who have studied a little French, no matter how long ago! This French course will look at different topics each term, allowing for new learners to join the group and current learners to develop their French further.

This course aims to:
Give learners the opportunity to rediscover and re-familiarise themselves with key French phrases and vocabulary they have previously learnt at school or college in order to be confident communicating in France.
Who this course is for?
This course is suitable for students who have studied French in the past and would like to brush up ‘rusty’ skills learnt many years ago.
What will I be able to do by the end of this course?
- Introduce yourself and your family
- Exchange personal information with new French acquaintances
- Ask for tourist information
- Use food vocabulary to go shopping and eat out
- Feel more comfortable with difficult grammar points such as present and perfect tense
- Have a better understanding of the French way of life and culture
What materials will I need for the course?
You will need pens, paper and a file for your course work.

How will I know I am making progress?
Progress will be monitored through tutor observation and feedback. Written homework will be marked and returned each week. You will be encouraged to reflect on your own progress at the end of each session.
Is there any extra study outside the class?
The tutor will set some homework for the following lesson.
Who is the course tutor?
Barbara is a native French speaker who now lives in Brighton with her family. She has a ‘RSA Certificate in Teaching Foreign Languages to Adults’ and has taught French at all levels for the past 20 years in adult education centres and colleges such as Friends Centre, BHASVIC and Varndean College.
Move on to a more advanced French course at Friends Centre such as Smarten Up Your French or Talk French.
