Whether you’re planning a blog to promote your business, document your life, create an online presence, or pursue a special interest, this blogging workshop is the perfect place to get started. In this exciting half-day session you will learn the basics of creating and maintaining a blog, including: choosing a platform, creating captivating content, understanding conventions, and engaging readers.

Together we will explore live online examples and discuss what works and why.  Guided writing activities provide an immediate opportunity for you to put what you’ve learned into practice.

You will leave the workshop with key tips for successful blogging, a personal list of content ideas for future development, a draft of an About Page, and the confidence to finally launch your blog.

Suitable for all, you may wish to bring a laptop to produce your work in class.

Introduce you to the basics of creating and maintaining a successful blog.


Who this course is for?

This practical workshop is for anyone interested in learning how to blog successfully, and to gain the confidence to actually get started. It is also the ideal place to practice new skills on an existing project, and a supportive place to try out something completely new.

What will I be able to do by the end of this course?

  • Understand the key elements of a successful blog
  • Create effective written digital content
  • Brainstorm content ideas
  • Identify writing conventions specific to online writing
  • Write an About Me info page

What materials will I need for the course?

A laptop or a notebook to write in class.


Roughly how much will they cost?

Bring your own laptop or borrow one from the centre – you will need to bring a USB pen drive to store your work.

Who is the course tutor?


Louise Dobson is a certified English Teacher with 7 years of full-time teaching experience. She holds an MA in Education, and an MSc in Journalism.

Louise has a passion for building writing communities where participants enjoy the support of a group and the expertise and experience of a professional tutor. Her friendly, approachable manner, and infectious love of writing ensure her classes are stimulating, constructive and enjoyable for all.


As a freelance journalist Louise has been published in major newspapers, including The Chicago Tribune and The Washington Post, and has been a frequent contributor to Psychology Today. Most recently, she has established the Brighton Writing Project which promotes social and creative growth through writing together.
