First
Class: an introduction to Teaching Adults
OCN accredited: 6 Credits at Level 3
Tutor:

From Saturday 30th September for 10 weeks
Fees: £145 (including accreditation fee)
This course provides an
initial introduction to the principles of teaching adults and applies to all
subject areas. It would also suit experienced tutors who would like a refresher.
Course content includes learning principles and expectations, learning and teaching
methods, lesson plans and schemes of work, tutor responsibilites and resources.
Introduction
to teaching English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)
OCN accredited: 4 Credits at Level 3

From Friday 12th January 2007 for 10 weeks
Fees: £145 (including accreditation fee)
This course is an introduction
to the needs of ESOL learners, both for those with experience of teaching English
and those new to the discipline. Previous learners on this course have been
EFL teachers, people working with asylum seekers and refugees in community organisations,
and ESOL learners themselves. Course content includes definitions of ESOL, teaching
and learning methods and materials, language analysis and cultural diversity
in the classroom.

This course is designed
for people whose work involves helping adults identify a potential learning
need and signposting them to help. It is also suitable for those who aresupporting
learners with their literacy, language and numeracy needs.
The course is divided into the following units;

22nd, 29th September and 6th October
10.00am-5.00pm
These first two units are mandatory. Learners may then go on to choose one of the following subject specialisms:

Previous learners have included general adult education tutors, people working in hostels for the homeless and insecurely housed, library workers and staff/volunteers from voluntary and community organisations.

We offer customised training courses for groups of employees, including awareness of clients' literacy, language and numeracy needs as well as methods of referral and strategies for support. Taster Workshops If you would like to teach adults, but are not sure how to get strated or how to gain qualifications, our "So you want to teach?" Saturday workshops are for you. They give you the chance to find out more about the subject area and what is involved in longer training courses. So you want to teach Adults? So you want to teach ESOL? So you want to teach Literacy? So you want to teach Numeracy? So you want to teach Basic
